When one or a few of your teeth are missing, it is more than just a problem with appearance — missing teeth can cause other teeth to shift. This can result in extra tension when you bite, increased pain during chewing, or even trouble speaking. A dental bridge restores the appearance and health of your mouth by covering spaces with a false tooth supported by either dental implants, your natural teeth, or a combination of both. At Ingber Dental in Washington, D.C., Dr. Kenneth Ingber and his experienced dental team offer custom-made bridges with top-quality materials that will help to restore your beautiful smile. If you have missing teeth, please schedule an appointment to learn about your restoration options with a custom bridge.
Instead of being supported by your existing teeth, like traditional dental bridges, implant-retained bridges are supported by crowns installed in your surrounding teeth and to the implants in your jawbone. The implants are created with titanium, and they are surgically placed into your jaw to support the new teeth. Crowns are then placed on your adjacent teeth to further secure the implant. An implant-supported bridge is an effective option for replacing more than one missing tooth, but it may also be utilized to avoid a buildup of pressure on the implant. This procedure conducted uses advanced technology to generate a durable and enhanced smile. At Ingber Dental in Washington, D.C., we only use high-quality materials to supply you with a gorgeous and natural-looking smile. Implant-retained bridges are a longer-lasting solution to restore missing teeth and help you get back the look and function of your original smile.
"Dr. Ingber and his staff went out of their way to fit me in as a new patient on a Friday afternoon with extremely short notice. Dr. Ingber was knowledgable and kind, and the staff were very helpful. He explained things clearly too. I would recommend to friends."- J.C. / Google / Sep 06, 2019
"Appointment started on time, more or less. I felt safe removing my mask for the cleaning/X-Rays, etc."- G.K. / Google / May 28, 2021
"Like many people, I dread going to the dentist because of some horrible experiences I’ve had. But I have to say that my recent visit to Ingber Dental for my cleaning was one of the best experiences that I have had. My hygienist, Chanel was very thorough and very gentle. I actually felt myself relaxing. If I could have her as my dental hygienist for the rest of my life I will never miss another cleaning. Fantastic experience! I also had my exam done for the first time by Dr. Kaitlin Delaney. I appreciated her warm professionalism, the thoroughness of her exam and the fact that I didn’t feel like she was rushing between patients. Overall, a fantastic team and fantastic experience!"- M.F. / Google / May 19, 2021

People with missing teeth do not merely have an appearance issue — gaps between the teeth can have a powerful impact on your oral health. The fact is: your mouth is carefully balanced and a gap can affect its function. In time, a missing tooth can lead to teeth shifting, creating bite problems (underbite, crossbite, overbite) and atrophy of the gums and jawbone. A dental bridge requires the surrounding teeth to be strong enough to support the restoration, including sufficient jawbone density and gums. We will assess your teeth, gums, and jaw during your exam and consultation to help you select the best bridge type (traditional, cantilever, Maryland bonded, or resin bonded) and material (porcelain, ceramic, metal, and porcelain fused to metal).
What To Expect
After your teeth are prepped, digital x-rays and impressions will be taken of your teeth so your custom bridge can be created. If needed, a temporary bridge or restoration can be placed while your custom one is being made. Once your restoration is ready, the needed areas of your mouth will be prepped with a numbing agent. Other anesthesia or sedation options may be used if you have anxiety or a strong gag reflex so you will be comfortable during the procedure. The dental bridge will either be cemented in place or attached to dental implants, depending on the support selected during your consultation. The fit of the bridge will be carefully adjusted so it feels comfortable and remains in place.
Once your bridge is in place, you should notice an improvement in the function and appearance of your teeth. You may need a second visit at Ingber Dental to improve the fit of your bridge if it seems loose or uncomfortable in the first few weeks after placement. A member of our team will show you how to maintain your restoration, including the best way to clean it and if you need to avoid any foods. It is crucial to regularly clean your bridge and mouth since cavities can still develop underneath the restoration. With proper care, your custom bridge can last for many years. You need to continue to attend appointments at Ingber Dental for your annual dental exams and bi-annual cleanings. At your dental exam, we will evaluate the wear and health of your custom bridge to determine if it needs to be repaired or replaced.
Restorations, like dental bridges, are usually covered partially by most dental insurance companies. A member of our team will contact your dental insurance to determine how much your insurance will pay. Ingber Dental accepts many payment methods, including medical financing, that can be talked about at your consultation. We can also help you select the best type and material for your bridge to fit both your needs and budget.
